The characters are relentlessly trampled upon, until, indeed, as the title might suggest, they are reduced to human trash. I was torn between a different ending but knew that the decisions made was needed.īoth of them was so lost and so dependant on the other - the journey alone needs to happen in order for them to find themselves and what they ultimately desire. The ending showed growth and self-awareness in a mature way that was bittersweet. Even though throughout the sterilization, I was annoyed at both of them, I understood that things like that can happen, would happen and they do happen - in every day life. The ending on a whole was what caught me. The entire series takes you on a journey of both Hanabi and Mugi as they navigate through their feelings for their sensei's and aslo the dependency, yearning and overall contradicting feelings that began to grow towards each other. With unrequited love, two friends decided to fill the void with each other. What had me devouring this whole series in one day, was the realness of everything.
